Salesmen Etiquette: Pushing Too Hard

Is your sales force too pushy that they push the customer away? Are they bullying the customers too hard to get them to buy?Sales are the driving force of any successful enterprise. If you don’t sell, you will not be in business for very long. If your sales team is too hungry for commission, the potential buyer could get turned off. Forcing and twisting a customer’s arms generally doesn’t work in sales.

A successful sales team could just be what you need to keep those numbers up and stay in the black. But there is also such a thing as ‘working too hard’ regarding the performance of the sales team.

While it is probable that the bullying could produce a sale, there is also the phenomenon called “remorse in the customer’s perspective”. Meaning, when the patron was only talked into buying something that they were hesitant to buy, they might go out of the store realizing that they really didn’t like what they bought. What you get is a return and that sale is canceled out.

Making Sure They COME BACK Customers must feel good about the purchased item, in your store and when they get home. Keeping a sales force that constantly breathes down a customer’s neck, and subsequently pouts when a customer freaks out and leaves, will not result in good profit.

An effective sales man should let the customer relax and buy what they want. They are allowed to hand out fliers though, for the ‘just browsing’ types. Giving these potential buyers enough room to breath will bring them back.
